Tell me about a technical disagreement.
Practice this questionDiscussion template: use your own project facts, ownership, and measured outcomes. Bracketed text is a placeholder.
Short explanation:
A technical-disagreement answer shows how you compared competing priorities and reached a workable decision with others. The goal is to explain reasoning and collaboration, not prove that you won an argument. Use an example where evidence, constraints or a small experiment helped the team choose.
Key points:
-
“We disagreed about [choice] because we prioritized [different constraints].”
-
“I compared [evidence/trade-offs] and discussed it with the team.”
-
“We chose [decision]; the result was [true outcome].”
-
Describe the other approach fairly and mention a benefit it offered even if it was not selected.
Interview point:
- Show how the decision served the project and what you learned from the discussion.
