Tell me about a decision you changed later.

Discussion template: use your own project facts, ownership, and measured outcomes. Bracketed text is a placeholder.

Short explanation:

Changing a technical decision can show good judgment when new evidence invalidates an earlier assumption. Explain why the original choice was reasonable at the time and what information changed. Then describe how you migrated safely rather than simply declaring the first choice bad.

Key points:

  • “I first chose [approach] based on [assumption].”

  • “New evidence showed [problem], so I changed to [approach].”

  • “I learned to validate [assumption] earlier.”

  • Include the cost of the change and how you avoided disrupting existing users or data.

Interview point:

  • The lesson should be a specific assumption to test earlier, not only “I learned to be careful.”
