How do you validate AI-generated code?

Practice this question
Discussion template: use your own project facts, ownership, and measured outcomes. Bracketed text is a placeholder.

Short explanation:

Validating AI-generated code means taking responsibility for its behavior rather than accepting plausible-looking output. Start from requirements and trace the important paths, then use tests and documentation to verify assumptions. Generated code deserves the same correctness, security and maintainability standards as manually written code.

Key points:

  • Read every change and compare it with the requirement.

  • Check logic, permissions, query behavior, concurrency and failure paths.

  • Run relevant tests and explain the code myself before accepting it.

  • Check whether a suggested API exists in the project's actual dependency version and whether examples omit required error or permission handling.

Interview point:

  • Be ready to explain and modify the accepted code yourself, including its failure cases.
