How was data modeled?

Practice this question
Discussion template: use your own project facts, ownership, and measured outcomes. Bracketed text is a placeholder.

Short explanation:

Data modeling identifies the records, relationships and constraints needed to represent the business correctly. A model should support the important reads and prevent invalid writes. Explain it through a real workflow so each table, document or relationship has a reason to exist.

Key points:

  • Name the main records and their relationships.

  • Explain one real key, constraint or index and why it was needed.

  • Include one uniqueness or ownership rule and describe where it was enforced.

Interview point:

  • Distinguish the logical model from the ORM decorators used to express it.
