What would you redesign today?

Practice this question
Discussion template: use your own project facts, ownership, and measured outcomes. Bracketed text is a placeholder.

Short explanation:

A redesign answer should show what you learned from the existing system and how you would improve one real weakness. The proposal needs a benefit, a migration approach and an honest cost. Replacing a whole stack is rarely a convincing answer without a specific constraint driving it.

Key points:

  • Choose one real weakness and explain a specific improvement.

  • State the benefit, migration cost and trade-off; avoid proposing a full rewrite without evidence.

  • Choose a bounded improvement such as isolating a provider adapter or removing a known N+1 access path.

Interview point:

  • Explain how you would roll out and validate the change while keeping existing users working.
